Here are the solutions to get remote access working (3G/4G network)

Air Playit enables users to access video library via remote server (3G/4G network). However, due to some reasons, your computer might not be accessible from internet. From my experience, there are two major causes as listed below. And I have some tips to get remote access working accordingly. You may give it a try.

1.        Port forwarding

What is port forwarding?

A router has two IP addresses: an external IP address and an internal IP address which acts as the gateway for every computer on the network.

A computer outside of the network can not "see" a computer inside of the network. They can only "see" and send data to the external IP address of the router. The router must then decide what to do with this data. Port Forwarding simply tells the router which computer on the local area network to send the data to. When you have port forwarding rules set up, your router takes the data off of the external IP address:port number and sends that data to an internal IP address:port number.

How to configure port forwarding on your router?

It seems that the current version of Air Playit doesn’t support auto configure port forwarding on the router. Thus, we’d better configure port forwarding manually. Below are the steps:

1)        Log in to your router settings.
2)        Add new port forwarding entry - port 37218, protocol TCP. The forwarding IP address needs to be IP address of your computer.

2.        DMZ settings

DMZ, short for Demilitarized Zone, is a computer or small subnetwork that sits between a trusted internal network, such as a corporate private LAN, and an untrusted external network, such as the public internet. It is a common feature of router that allow to chose one client to which all traffic is forwarded.

If your modem supports DMZ, you may try the following tip.

1)        Run Air Playit server. Find the LAN IP address of the computer on which the server is installed.

2)        Log in to the modem web admin interface, find the DMZ settings and put the IP address there.

However, in this way, your computer might be exposed to the internet.

hi
first, i'd say the app and the software are great. Thanks for the work.
I finally could connect to my server using 3G, and i see the files.
but when i start a movie for exemple, the screen says "loading" for a while and then gets me back to the "play"/"download"/"convert" page

Is this due to my 3G connection or to a setting?

Ps : does anyone seen english is not my native language? ;)

First please download the AirPlayit Server new release version, the version number is still the 1.0.0 but has changed a lots of details.
as you know the server will convert and splite the data, then send out to client app. we found some user can't play video across 3G network because of the following bug of our program.
1. iPhone app  time-out is too small only 15 secs.
2. server splite the video data as 4 secs (maybe 20 secs )  per video package.
so, the problem is : the 4 secs (or 20 secs) video will needs 18 secs to transfer from server to your iPhone across 3G network.  then the iPhone client Time-Out and back to play list.

today, we have updated the Server Client and iPhone APP (still in review )

Could you tell me what kind of router you are using?

I cant seem to get it to work either.

I have disabled my antivirus bitdefenders firewall.

Forwarded 37218 to 192.168.1.17 which is the ip where I have Air Playit Server installed and I have dmz disabled and it doesnt work.

Any ideas?

My router is a Netgear WNDR3700

Many Thanks
Monty

I can't get it to work via 3G on my Apple Airport Extreme. Wifi is fine though.

In Airport Utility
Under Internet
Then NAT
I have enabled NAT Port Mapping Protocol

In Configure Port Settings
I created a new service (Personal File Sharing)
Under Public UDP/TCP Ports & Private UDP/TCP ports, I have used 37218

I still can't get it to work. Kept getting the Connect Server Failed on my iOS devices. Suxs..

I made a guide that gets into more detail about the 3G port forwarding aspect of it. Especially if your ISP(internet service provider) changes your IP address from time to time. Follow this guide and if you have any issues I will help you through it.

Hi All,  i had the same problem where i couldn't connect with 3G, however in my iphone, when i was adding my Server.  I didn't use my normal 192.168.X.X IP Address, i used the IP Address my ISP (TPG) gave me.  A good website i went to is www.ipchicken.com.  This will tell you the IP address that is external to your Computer.  If you use this IP address with the correct port (and if you have port forwarding on) then you should be able to access your Server via Remote Wifi and 3G!  AWESOME! Great Program.
