Here are the solutions to get remote access working (3G/4G network) how, get, remote, access

Air Playit enables users to access video library via remote server (3G/4G network). However, due to some reasons, your computer might not be accessible from internet. From my experience, there are two major causes as listed below. And I have some tips to get remote access working accordingly. You may give it a try.  

1.        Port forwarding

What is port forwarding?

A router has two IP addresses: an external IP address and an internal IP address which acts as the gateway for every computer on the network.

A computer outside of the network can not "see" a computer inside of the network. They can only "see" and send data to the external IP address of the router. The router must then decide what to do with this data. Port Forwarding simply tells the router which computer on the local area network to send the data to. When you have port forwarding rules set up, your router takes the data off of the external IP address:port number and sends that data to an internal IP address:port number.

How to configure port forwarding on your router?

It seems that the current version of Air Playit doesn’t support auto configure port forwarding on the router. Thus, we’d better configure port forwarding manually. Below are the steps:

1)        Log in to your router settings.
2)        Add new port forwarding entry - port 37218, protocol TCP. The forwarding IP address needs to be IP address of your computer.

2.        DMZ settings

DMZ, short for Demilitarized Zone, is a computer or small subnetwork that sits between a trusted internal network, such as a corporate private LAN, and an untrusted external network, such as the public internet. It is a common feature of router that allow to chose one client to which all traffic is forwarded.

If your modem supports DMZ, you may try the following tip.

1)        Run Air Playit server. Find the LAN IP address of the computer on which the server is installed.



2)        Log in to the modem web admin interface, find the DMZ settings and put the IP address there.

However, in this way, your computer might be exposed to the internet.

Ok I figured this out last night and it is working so I hope it helps those that are using the Apple Airport Extreme router.

In AirPort Utility/Advanced/Port Mapping click on the little + sign to add a new entry and then there will be 6 entries to fill out:

  1. Service (drop down list and custom) -  Select Custom
  2. Public TCP Port - What ever port you set Air Playit to use (default is 37218)
  3. Public UDP Port - Same port as above
  4. Private IP Address - When you start the Air Playit server on the Mac or PC the front page shows you what port is being used, what the computers IP address (something like 192.168.1.100) is and in small print towards the bottom is the internet IP. You have to put the internet IP here or it does not seem to work.
  5. Private TCP Port - What ever port you set Air Playit to use (default is 37218)
  6. Private UDP Port - Same port as above

Anyway this is how I had to set mine up to get it to work. The only issue is that my internet IP is not Static (remain the same) so when it changes I will have to update my settings but the good thing is my internet IP does not seem to change that often.

Hopefully this will help someone out.

Hello... Ok I have read all through this thread. I am at my wits end. I have both an iPhone4 and iPhone4s. I have the latest edition of air Playit on my computer. I have a netgear wireless router in the house, and wifi access for the player is fine. my cable modem is a Ubee D3.0 from Comcast Cable I set up the 3G and 4G connections and they worked great for months. No I went and updated the ios for the damn phones to ios6 and now my 3G and 4G will not connect. I have checked the IP and the Port, checked the damn port forwarding, all was perfect before, I did not adjust a darn thing, just let the phones update. So anyone on here have any ideas? I could use some help.

hey!
for start most impressive APP works perfect using WiFi. But when trying to set up 3G/4G connection it wont work for me.
i have a thomson 789vn router and ive been in the settings and ive looked at the port forwarding site. but my router doesnt exist on that page. its relatively new. BUT stil i cant navigate in the router so i dont know what to do. tried different guides.
since im in the army. and i cant  use my computer all the time specially not in my tank. i think this app is terrific. then i can use my standos for watching my series. so i beg of you SOMEONE HELP!

Using Wi-Fi to stream movies from my iMac to my iPhone works perfectly, but I seem to be having no luck at all setting up a remote 3G connection. I'm using a Sagemcom f@st 2864 router. It seems to have more settings than what are shown in the guides I've seen. Can anyone offer any advice?
